Best boomerang

One of the most popular Australian souvenirs is and remains the boomerang or boomerang – a historical hunting weapon of Australian aborigines, which is now sold as a decorative element (in a highly decorated form also known as the “Australian boomerang”) or fun sport gear.

In our Boomerang comparison 2017, we explain to you what you need to consider if you want to buy a cheap boomerang and give you tips on using the litter. So you can soon start your first Boomerang test.

On the traces of the litter

Whoever uses the term boomerang today often means something quite different from the original hunting weapon:

A term used in psychology, which shows that something works only well, but then achieves an opposite result.
A recurring element in the pop and game culture, such as in the well-known series “The Legend of Zelda”, where the boomerang is the most important tool of the protagonist.
A TV station (Boomerang TV) or a film from the year 1992.
The history of the boomerang is, however, very old and not restricted to Australia. The oldest boomerang is about 23,000 years old and was carved from a mammoth canine. Even on rock images in Scandinavia or in Egyptian burial chambers, evidence for the existence of litter was found.

3. Purchase advice for boomerangs: wings, material and hands

3.1. What about the wings?

The wings of a boomerang are its most important element, because they enable the aerodynamic buoyancy. The always bevelled wings give rise to a curvature which, similar to the wing of an aircraft, provides buoyancy; But for an irregular and side-directed lift, since only the respective front wing rises.

In addition, there is a gyroscopic effect, which is caused by the rotating movement. The effect is caused by a gyro movement, has a self-regulating effect and thus ensures a stable trajectory.

A boomerang with three wings flies very quiet and stable, which is just for beginners. The movement is reminiscent of the rotor of a helicopter and can also be calculated well. This is necessary again for catching the boomerang.

Professionals can switch to heavy wood models, which have only two wings with wide wingspan. There are different shapes (such as the omega-shaped boomerang) with which you can individually define your litter style – try several types!

3.2. Boomerang: Plastic vs. Wood

Originally Boomerangs were made from all kinds of materials – even from bone. Today manufacturers are concentrating on their branded products on plastic and wood models.

Professionals and tournament participants will mainly see you with a boomerang made of wood, as these models have better flotation characteristics. However, there are also very good models made of plastic, which are just an ideal alternative for beginners – especially if you want to play on a holiday at the lake or in the sea.

3.3. Left hand or right hand?

Boomerang’s design is crucial: you can not use a boomerang for right-handers as left-handers! In a right-handed boomerang, the arched surface of the wings, when dropped, points to the left, and the boomerang takes a trajectory counter-clockwise. In a left-handed boomerang, the entire design is mirror-inverted.

The good news is that now also boomerang exist for left and right-handers. These dual models can be used as both left and right-handed.
